It has been just over a month since I took over at the wheel of the MTA Institute and I’ve certainly got my feet well and truly under the desk.
As an update on my previous column, we are gaining traction in the digitisation space with February seeing a significant reduction in the use of hard copy training material. This aligns with our aspiration of being paperless where practical.
Late February saw us commence a pilot program with an online trainer-led session for students in regional Queensland. It was a great success, and while this model will never replace the face-to-face training delivery the Institute offers, it certainly complements it and supplements our engagement with students in the regions.
We are excited to announce we are playing a large part at this year’s AAAA Autocare program in June at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre. Be sure to keep an eye out for our trade stand and take advantage of a local (greater SEQ) trade event that includes some electric vehicle (EV) training from our people.
On another note, we are undertaking an internal audit of all things training in order to have some fresh eyes scrutinise what we do. Compliance is a critical part of any organisation, and we anticipate some areas of improvement which will feed into our continuous improvement framework.
While it is crucial to be compliant, our challenge is to ensure our training remains relevant and aligns with industry requirements.
Related to compliance and more-so an industry expectation, we’re acutely aware that all of our trainers need to maintain their respective industry currency. It is our aim to provide them with any professional development opportunities available to ensure they keep up to speed with the ever-changing technology with which our industry is bombarded. This is a challenge we’re all encountering, and continually investing and upskilling our people is not only essential but inevitable if we wish to remain ahead of the curve.
I hope you’re having a great first quarter of the year.
