With the end of the 2023/24 financial year and the start of the next, we see a change of guard with long-term MTA Institute trainers Roger West and Alex Fletcher both reaching the point of well-earned retirement.
I’d like to personally thank them both for near on 40 years of combined service at MTA Queensland.
Interestingly, I completed my pre-vocational course as a young whippersnapper under Roger as my supervisor in the late 1980s and started my employment at a similar time as Alex with MTA Queensland in the early 2000s.
While the exit of long-serving staff results in a loss of decades of experience, it opens the way for a new generation of trainers charged with the heavy responsibility of guiding our current and future trainees and apprentices. I’m both confident and excited to see a new generation of educators emerge.
On the subject of our trainers, we look forward to seeing them all at our bi-annual conference at the end of July.
The conference represents an opportunity to assist them with their ongoing professional development which positions them as confident and competent leaders.
We are all more than aware of how quickly our industry is progressing with significant technological advancements presenting very rapidly. MTA Queensland is committed to ensuring our trainers are, and will continue to be, at the forefront of these technological changes.
On the subject of keeping up with technology, I’d like to remind everyone of some of our training products, which include online electric vehicle micro-credentials, face-to-face electric vehicle skill sets, ADAS short courses, several diesel courses and introductory welding courses. Just jump on our website – mtai.edu.au – and have a look around.
On another note, keep an eye out for training in regional Queensland as we schedule the deployment of our Auto Ready programs aimed at school students interested in automotive, and our electric and hybrid vehicle de-power program for technicians.
That’s about it for this month. Hoping you all a productive 2024/25.
