The new Australian Apprenticeships Incentive system has commenced from 1st July 2022 and focusses on priority occupations, which includes all our automotive apprenticeships.
The Priority Wage Subsidy is paid for a maximum of three years at the rate of:
- 10 per cent of wages paid for the first year (up to a maximum of $1500 per quarter),
- 10 per cent of wages paid for the second year (up to a maximum of $1500 per quarter); and
- 5 per cent of wages paid for the third year (up to a maximum of $750 per quarter).
Payments are made in arrears, with the first payment payable to eligible employers three months after commencement, followed by the quarterly payments thereafter.
Eligibility rules to attract the Priority Wage Subsidy for their employer, new and existing worker Australian Apprentices:
- Must be in a priority occupation on the Australian Apprenticeship Priority List;
- Must be undertaking Cert III+ level qualification as listed on the Priority List;
- Must not be undertaking a previously completed qualification that leads to the same occupation OR a qualification that supersedes a previously completed qualification unless the previously undertaken qualification was completed more than seven years ago or completed overseas.
The MTA Institute continues to successfully roll out its Auto Ready program. This accredited course is a tailored school program to help students decide on their automotive journey.
We have completed programs in Brisbane and Rockhampton and will also be deploying in Oakey in the upcoming September school holidays.
The Institute has partnered with Group Training Organisations to run a AUR10120 Certificate I in Automotive Vocational Preparation course. We have successfully delivered this in Cairns and will be running similar courses in Brisbane.
The Institute has also placed AUR22021 Certificate II in Automotive Accessory Fitting on scope and will begin taking on fee-for-service enrolments later this year. Some preliminary feedback suggests this qualification will be of interest to workshops that have accessory fitting as part of their business model.
We are also supporting an Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) Introduction course for members of the public who have purchased a vehicle that has ADAS and would like to know more about its essential safety technology.
