Top Gear, the mega-popular British motoring program, has hired American actor Matt LeBlanc to co-host the iconic show.
LeBlanc, who achieved worldwide fame playing the character of Joey Tribbiani on the US sitcom Friends, is, apparently, a bit of a car nut as well as a self-confessed fan of the UK program. He has appeared as a guest on the show – taking the fastest time in the ‘Star in a Reasonably Priced Car’ segment in 2012 driving a Kia Cee’d – and also presented a standalone spin-off called Top Gear: The Races, where he led fans through some of the most memorable racing moments from the previous 22 series.
“As a car nut and a massive fan of Top Gear, I’m honoured and excited to be a part of this iconic show’s new chapter,” said LeBlanc. “What a thrill!”
LeBlanc will join British TV and radio personality Chris Evans – himself a car fanatic and classic car collector – as one of Top Gear’s new hosts. The BBC says that other cast members will be announced shortly.
“Matt’s a lifelong fellow petrolhead and I’m thrilled he’s joining Top Gear,” said Evans. “Acting out our craziest car notions on screen is a dream job and I know we’ll both be debating some epic road trip ideas.”
The new Top Gear is due to arrive on screens in May.
