    Course Overview

    We are excited to announce our first women-focused, automotive pre-vocational course. A unique opportunity in a supportive environment has been specifically created for women to explore an entry-level pathway towards one of many automotive apprenticeships.

    Similar to our regular ‘mixed cohort’ pre-vocational courses, students will learn a range of tasks relating to identifying and inspecting mechanical and electrical components and systems of light vehicles; together with essential skills and knowledge required to succeed in the automotive industry.

    This course will be delivered by a qualified female trainer and is designed to empower like-minded women to confidently commence a career in the automotive industry.

    Accredited Units

    This course will cover the following units:

    AURAEA002 – Follow environmental and sustainability best practice in an automotive workplace
    AURAFA003 – Communicate effectively in an automotive workplace
    AURAFA004 – Resolve routine problems in an automotive workplace
    AURASA002 – Follow safe working practices in an automotive workplace
    AURETK001 – Identify, select and use low voltage electrical test equipment
    AURETR003 – Identify automotive electrical systems and components
    AURETR015 – Inspect, test and service batteries
    AURLTA001 – Identify automotive mechanical systems and components
    AURTTK002 – Use and maintain tools and equipment in an automotive workplace
    AURTTA002 – Assist with automotive workplace activities
    AURTTA009 – Carry out mechanical pre-repair operations
    AURTTE003 – Remove and tag engine system components


    The MTA Institute campus, Freeway Office Park, Building 8, 2728 Logan Road, Eight Mile Plains. Work placement may also be incorporated at a suitable worksite.

    Course Length

    Five weeks of face to face college-based training and assessment.


    MTA Institute uses a range of training and assessment methods. These include written and verbal questions/answers; and demonstration and observation of practical tasks.

    Entry requirements

    To be eligible for the Certificate 3 Guarantee program a participant must:

    • not hold or be undertaking a Certificate level III or higher qualification*
    • be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident (including humanitarian entrants), or a temporary resident with the    necessary visa and work permits on the pathway to permanent residency.
    • permanently reside in Queensland and can provide residential confirmation of this.
    • have finished secondary school or no longer be at school
    • be aged 15 years or above.

    *Prospective students are only eligible for one subsidised training place*
    *If you completed a Certificate III qualification while in secondary school, you may still be eligible to receive a government subsidy for a Certificate III course with MTA Institute*

    Fee Information

    This course is subsidised through the Queensland Government under the Certificate 3 Guarantee program. However, eligible students are required to contribute toward the cost of training through a co-contribution fee. Concessional discounts are also available – refer to eligibility criteria below.

    To be eligible for a concession, you must meet one or more of the following criteria:

    • hold or are listed on an Australian Government Low Income Health Care Card or Pensioner Concession Card;
    • are Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander; or

    Full Fee Price

    MTA Institute also welcomes students who do not meet the entry requirements for this program. In this instance the full course fee of $3,300.00 will be applicable. Where fees are over $1,500 for an individual, a payment plan will be implemented.

  • August 31, 2021 - September 3, 2021 All day


    This course covers the fundamental requirements for inspecting and servicing battery electric vehicle (BEV) and hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) systems and components in the automotive retail, service and repair industry.

    This is a four-day course.


    • AURETH001 – Depower and reinitialize battery electric vehicles
    • AURETH002 – Service and maintain battery electric vehicles
    • AURETH003 – Diagnose and repair high voltage rechargeable energy storage systems in battery electric vehicles
    • AURETH007 – Diagnose and repair system instrumentation and safety interlocks in battery electric vehicles
    • AURETH010 – Diagnose and repair high voltage rechargeable energy storage systems in hybrid electric vehicles
    • AURETH011 – Depower and reinitialise hybrid electric vehicles
    • AURETH012 – Service and maintain electrical components in hybrid electric vehicles

    This is a four-day face-to-face college-based course. Additional activities may need to be completed outside of this timeframe.


    Prospective students must meet the Queensland Government’s Higher Level Skills Program eligibility requirements and already hold one of the following trade qualifications:

    • AUR30316 – Certificate III in Automotive Electrical Technology, or equivalent; 
    • AUR30616 – Certificate III in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology, or equivalent.

    A copy of your qualification, including an academic transcript (list of units completed) will be required on enrolment.


    At the MTA Institute you will receive:

    • Quality training and assessment
    • Face-to-face delivered training
    • Trainers with current industry experience
    • Ongoing assistance from your trainer and the MTA Institute team throughout your course
    • An Australian Qualifications Framework certificate within 30 days of competent completion of all assessment requirements


    For eligible candidates, this course is subsidised through the Queensland Government under the Higher Level Skills Program.

    Student co-contribution fees are as follows:

    • $1,680 Subsidised rate
    • $1,530 Concessional rate

    Non-eligible candidates are also welcome to participate in this course for $2,000.
