Australian Jobs 2019 Report – Automotive Industry

The Australian Jobs 2019 Report has been released which details an overview of trends in the Australian labour market to support job seekers and providers, career advisers, those considering future training and work and people interested in labour market issues.

The report highlights trends for Technicians and Trade Workers (including the automotive industry).

Technician and Trade Worker statistics includes:

  • 1,793,200 employed as of November 2018
  • 35% of this number are regional workers
  • 17% aged between 15 and 24
  • 24% are self-employed

For the Automotive and Engineering Trades Workers specifically, the following trends have been noted:

  • Motor Mechanics are the third highest Technician and Trade Worker at 108,500
  • 5% are part-time workers
  • 1% are female
  • 72% have a Certificate III or higher
  • 19% have no post-school qualification
  • + 1.3% projected employment is projected until May 2023
